Mandatory Safety Compliance and Registration of all Queensland Pools and Spas.
From 1st December, 2015, it is the law for all new and existing Queensland pools and spas to be compliant with the new Pool Safety Standards as shown on a valid Pool Safety Certificate, and be entered on the Pool Safety Register with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC).
Shared pools or spas; e.g., body corporate of home units and apartments, commercial operators such as hotels, motels, resorts, B&B’s, caravan parks.
For a shared pool, your Pool Safety Certificate must be renewed annually. That is, your Pool Safety Certificate is valid for 1 year. Pool Safety Inspections are essential for peace of mind in regards to pool safety.
Non-shared pools or spas; e.g., private home owners, landlords.
Pool owners are responsible for a non-shared pool, it is compulsory that you have a valid Pool Safety Certificate in the event of entering into a Property Sale or Lease agreement. Your non-shared Pool Safety Certificate is valid for 2 years. However, even if not selling or leasing, consider the peace of mind which accompanies the knowledge that your pool continues to be compliant when you choose to have your pool re-inspected every 2 years.
The purpose of the new legislation is to save lives. Of utmost importance is that your pool or spa is as safe as possible for your family, friends, neighbours and the wider community.
Pool owners are responsible to ensure their pool or spa is listed on the Pool Safety Register; fencing must be properly maintained and meet the safety standard with any breakages fixed immediately; and a current CPR sign must be displayed prominently where it can be easily seen. There are hefty fines issued to owners of unregistered and uncertified pools. If you need an inspection in Brisbane contact Pool Safety Inspections Brisbane.
